The Church That Cares For Your Soul

A Bag With Holes

Life can feel like a bag with holes at times.  When we try to get comfort out of the things of the world, we are fighting a losing battle.  People and things are going to disappoint.

Haggai 1:6. Ye have sown much, and bring in little; ye eat, but ye have not enough; ye drink, but ye are not filled with drink; ye clothe you, but there is none warm; and he that earneth wages earneth wages to put it into a bag with holes.

A Bag With Holes

Life can feel like a bag with holes at times.  When we try to get comfort out of the things of the world, we are fighting a losing battle.  People and things are going to disappoint. It is in the Lord where we can find true happiness.  You can work pretty hard in this life and only get ahead a little it seems, if at all.  There is no satisfaction to the flesh, yet at times we keep trying to get comfort from the wrong things.  The Lord is hoping that you will eventually get tired of trying and just seek refuge in Him alone.  Once we get to the point of not trying to get comfort from this world, we will quit worrying about the fact that our bag has a bunch of holes in it.  The only bag without holes is the eternal bag in heaven that has no holes.

Sowing Much But Bringing in Little

We try to sow to the flesh and expect to reap life everlasting it.  That is not the way the equation works.

Flesh = Corruption —- Spirit = Life Everlasting

That is the way it works.  You can save for the rest of your life and live the dream retirement and still not be satisfied.  This life is never going to bring true joy outside of the Lord.  A farmer plants and hopes to reap sixty, eighty or one hundred times as much as he puts in the ground.  When he only reaps a little more than he sowed due to a draught, that is more like real life at times.  A bag with holes is where most of your paycheck ends up.  You see little real investment in this life.  Lay up your treasures in heaven.  There moth and rust cannot destroy and some thief cannot take it from you.  So please put your money where it will live for eternity with the Lord.
