A Broken Heart

A Broken Heart

A broken heart is the calling card to God.  The Lord will never despise a broken and a contrite heart.

Psalms 34:18 The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.

Psalms 51:17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.

A Broken Heart

A broken heart is the calling card to God.  The Lord will never despise a broken and a contrite heart.  When we are broken, we are most valuable to God.  God loves humble people and hates proud people.  Being humble is often looked at by the world as a sign of weakness.  God looks at it as greatness.  When we are broken, we are often in desperate need of help.  When we are proud, we often think we can handle things on our own.  The proud man wants to do everything for himself so that self gets all the credit.  The humble realizes that only God can get him out of his problem and does not exalt self at all.  To the humble man, self is the problem.  Self is what got him into the sin that is causing problems for him.

The Lord is Nigh

The Lord is close by when we are in trouble.  The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart.  The Lord wants to help.  The problem is our flesh is often in the way.  Pride is the number one exaltor of the flesh.  We make excuses for our sin rather than just humble down.  You have to be broken before you can be humbled first.  The prodigal did not have a broken heart until he was in the pig pen.  The Lord often has to break us before we will come to him.  When we are finally broken and come to the Lord with a humble heart, He can finally truly help us.
