The Church That Cares For Your Soul

A Fool and God’s Word

Proverbs 18:1-2  Through desire a man, having separated himself, seeketh and intermeddleth with all wisdom. A fool hath no delight in understanding, but that his heart may discover itself.

A Fool Has No Delight in God’s Word

A fool has no delight in studying and understanding the word of God.  The only reason he would study the word of God is so his own heart may be pleased or for some worldly gain.  It takes time and effort to learn the word of God and apply it in a practical manner to our lives.  You can pump a lot of knowledge into your head from the Bible, however, unless it affects your walk with God, it is of little use.  A fool has no real happiness that comes from learning his Bible in a practical manner.  As a result he does not do it.  A godly Christian loves to study God’s word and learn because it brings him joy.  He loves the Bible.

A Fool Has No Desire in God’s Word

It is a desire for the word of God that pushes a man forward to gain understanding and wisdom.  A desire is produced by a close walk with God.  A desire does not come over night for a Christian.  It needs to be produced by more and more reading and getting the word of God in your heart.  You may not have liked vegetables as a young child, however, you acquired a taste for them through repeatedly eating them.  The same is true of God’s word and study, you grow in your desire for it by eating more and more of it.

A Fool Has No Separation Unto God’s Word

It also requires separation to get wisdom and understanding.  You have to separate yourself from the world in order to spend time in God’s word.  You will never seek and intermeddle with it unless you first separate.  You have to value God’s knowledge more than the knowledge of this world, including the news.  The unseparated Christian only reads his Bible so that he can put a chalk mark on the wall and say that it is done.  He has no heart to it.  It will not change him or his practices.  That is not the kind of Christian you want to be.  You want to be affected by God’s word daily.  It needs to be the desire of your heart.  If that is not the case with you, then you need to get after it until God’s word affects your heart and you do have a desire for it.
