The Church That Cares For Your Soul

A Lying Spirit

2 Chronicles 18:5. Therefore the king of Israel gathered together of prophets four hundred men, and said unto them, Shall we go to Ramoth-gilead to battle, or shall I forbear? And they said, Go up; for God will deliver it into the king’s hand.

Ahab, the king of Israel, had four hundred prophets who were basically a bunch of cronies.  That is what most politicians are today.  They all follow the party line no matter if it is right or wrong.  It is amazing to me how these 400 prophets all agreed together.  Of course they had some help from a lying spirit sent from the Lord.  This is the same thing coming from our pulpits today.  They are becoming lying prophets.  There are fewer and fewer Micaiahs who will proclaim the truth.  Most of them just follow some lying spirit of the world.

Ahab did not much care for the truth; but Jehoshaphat, king of Judah, wanted what was right.  He knew what a real prophet was and he knew these 400 prophets were not it.  The one way that Jehoshaphat knew that a prophet was telling the truth was when he did not tell him what he wanted to hear, but was even willing to tell him some bad if it was the truth.  If you get upset with your preacher telling you the truth, even when it is bad, you have the same attitude as the king of Israel.  Micaiah was the one prophet who wanted to tell the truth.  He gave it to them straight, once they were serious about wanting the truth.

Do you want a lying spirit from the Lord or do you want the truth?  Many, sadly, want a lying spirit.  We need to have the truth at any cost.  It could be the difference between life and death, as it was for Ahab.  Lying for some people is second nature.  It could be because they are demon possessed like these 400 prophets.  Do you often wonder how the world gets in lock-step doing wrong?  The left wing and right wing are still flapping on the same bird.  They all seem to have that lying spirit.  Let’s make sure we don’t like lying spirits but desire the truth.
