The Church That Cares For Your Soul

A Reasonable Service

Romans 12:1. I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

A Reasonable Service

A reasonable service for a Christian is giving our lives up for God.  A dedication or consecration is a setting aside of your life for the Lord.  The Bible calls this “reasonable.”  According to Webster’s 1828, some the definitions include: just, rational, not immoderate, tolerable, not excessive, not unjust, and governed by reason.  Reasonable service is not the norm in Christianity today, however.  There are few who want to give up the comforts of this life to sell out for God.  They want to get all they can in this life; even if they have all eternity to enjoy the pleasures of heaven, which are far, far greater.

He Died For You

One of the reasons it is reasonable to give God your life is He first gave His for you.  You kind of owe Him.  He did you a big favor by keeping you out of hell for all time and eternity.  All He is asking for is your body and life for 60-80 years.  That is not really an unreasonable request.  It is not excessive in the least.  Yet so few Christians are truly sold out for the Lord.  The flesh certainly will fight you on this one.  A living sacrifice is one that never dies.  At least for that lamb on the altar, it was a one time deal.  We need to die every day.  That is a little harder.  However, the Bible calls dying daily a reasonable or just sacrifice for us to make as Christians.

The Will of God

Living in the will of God is what is expected of a Christian after they get saved.  The will of God is found in the Word of God. You cannot say God is leading you to do anything that is contrary to the Scripture.  We have to give up our will and our desires for God’s.  That is the kind of sacrifice God expects from Christians.  There should not be some in the church who are dedicated and some who are not.  Everyone should make that sacrifice when they get saved.  If you have never dedicated or set your life aside for the Lord, you need to do so.  It is a reasonable service to do.
