A Spirit of Unbelief

A Spirit of Unbelief

The children of Israel had a spirit of unbelief.  They had ten times that God showed mighty in their lives yet they still doubted God could overcome the Giants of Canaan and allow them to conquer the promise land.

Numbers 14:23-24 Surely they shall not see the land which I sware unto their fathers, neither shall any of them that provoked me see it: But my servant Caleb, because he had another spirit with him, and hath followed me fully, him will I bring into the land whereinto he went; and his seed shall possess it.

A Spirit of Unbelief

The children of Israel had a spirit of unbelief.  They had ten times that God showed mighty in their lives yet they still doubted God could overcome the Giants of Canaan and allow them to conquer the promise land.  Despite what the Lord has done for us, we also doubt that God can accomplish much in our lives.  The problem is a bad spirit.  But Caleb a different spirit.  He had a spirit of belief.  A spirit of unbelief only comes from that wicked one and his demons.  He was in the garden questioning God to Eve, trying to get her to doubt God’s goodness.

The Goodness of God

When we question God’s goodness in our life when we doubt Him and the choices he makes in our lives.  When we got saved and dedicated our lives to the Lord, we gave up all control and ownership we had on this life.  If we try to regain control, we can become like the children of Israel and want to head back to Egypt rather than just face the trials in Canaan that the Lord has for us.  The two choices are either face death in the wilderness or have blessing in the land of Canaan.  In either case you are going to go through trials.  I would rather go through trials and have the blessing of God on my life.

Another Spirit

Caleb had another spirit.  He has a spirit of belief.  A spirit of belief is a submitted spirit.  The Bible says Caleb fully followed the Lord.  There was no compromise or half-heartedness in Caleb.  He just always was faithful.  That is the kind of spirit you should have.  Caleb just did what the man of God told him to do.  He held up his hands when the battle was raging.  Let’s make sure we have another spirit than a spirit of unbelief and bitterness.  We want to make sure we don’t provoke God so that he ends up giving up on us and we die in the wilderness.
