The Church That Cares For Your Soul

Accountability of the Soul

Romans 14:12 – So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.

Romans 2:1 – Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest: for wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest doest the same things.

We will one day give account of our soul to God.  We judge others when we should be judging ourselves.  Romans 2 follows the list of sins in Romans 1 that ends in sodomy.  There are a lot of others sins listed in Romans 1 besides sodomy, many of which we are guilty of.  The main way we deal with sin in our fallen nature is by making ourselves look better than someone else.  We compare ourselves to others.  The Bible tells us this is foolish.  When you start to do that, you will naturally find someone worse than you.  I have never heard of anyone who tries to justify their sin with someone better.  It’s not my brother, it’s not my sister but its me O’ Lord, standing in the need of prayer.

When we judge others, we are really condemning ourselves.  This is because we judge others when we are guilty of something similar.  We want to make sure everyone knows the other person is guilty of something worse.  It all comes down to pride.  No one wants to admit they are a sinner, especially about specific sins.  People will admit they are fallen or have faults but rarely will they come out and say I have done so and so against God.  We really need to be careful when we start to judge others because we are really bringing condemnation on ourselves.

One day, all of God’s blood washed saints will have to stand before the throne of God and give account.  We will need to answer for our judgmental spirit, our lack of grace with our brothers and sisters in Christ, for an unkind word to a spouse, or an evil thought about someone.  Whenever that feeling of being critical or judgmental hits you, know it comes from the pit of hell and cast it out.  Instead, it would be a lot better to have grace, give someone the benefit of the doubt, and pray for them and not condemn yourself through your pride.
