The angels that met Jacob along the way had seen Jacob on his way out. Jacob was returning home after a short little 20 year trip down to Uncle Laban’s house.

Genesis 32:1 And Jacob went on his way, and the angels of God met him.

The Angels That Met Jacob

The angels that met Jacob along the way had seen Jacob on his way out.  Jacob was returning home after a short little 20 year trip down to Uncle Laban’s house.  He was running from his brother who was about ready to kill him.  When his mom tried to get him out of town after her little scheme kind of backfired, she made it sound like it was going to be a short trip.  It ended up be a lot longer than he ever thought.  I am sure that Jacob learned a few things out in the desert tending sheep and cattle for 20 years.  He must have grown closer to God and the things of God.  When heading back home, Jacob meets up with several angels.  These angels meet him on his way back home.  They sought him out.  When we come back to God, God will meet us on our way.  Draw nigh to God and he will draw nigh to you.

The Wrestling Match

Jacob sent everyone else out ahead across a brook.  Somehow he spent an extra night on the other side of the creek by himself.  While there, one of those angels stayed behind.  Jacob wrestled with this particular angel who happened to be the Angel of the Lord, the Lord Jesus Christ.  Jacob wanted another blessing.  He was not going to let go until he got one.  Is that how we are?  Do we wrestle in prayer until God gives us a blessing?  Are we will to do whatever it takes to prevail in prayer with the Lord?  It cost Jacob a bum leg for the rest of his life.  You might not meet an angel along the way but you can meet the Lord in prayer.  You might not wrestle a literal angel, but you can strive in prayer for someone in need.  Jacob met an angel along the way of life.  Have you meet the Lord on your way today?  I hope so.
