The Church That Cares For Your Soul

Being A Good Leader

Ephesians 6:9. And, ye masters, do the same things unto them, forbearing threatening: knowing that your Master also is in heaven; neither is there respect of persons with him.

Good Leaders are Good Servants

The key to being a good leader is being a good servant.  Paul commanded masters to do the same thing unto a servant that you would have them do for you.  That means you treat people with respect and not threaten them with being fired everytime they cross you.  Controlling your temper as a boss is critical.  When we realize that God is our Master, we will respect others when we have the rule over them.

A Lot of Responsibility in Leadership

Being in charge is not all it is cracked up to be.  There is a lot of responsibility to make things happen, sometimes with people that are less than stellar employees. You don’t always get to pick the best people.  Sometimes you have to move ahead with what you got and make it work.  Regardless, most decent Christians should want to work hard, even if they don’t always have the ability necessary.  Hardwork can often make up for a lack of ability.

A Leader Needs to Honor God

Paul said that a servant should do what he does for his master from as a way of honoring God from the heart.  A good leader should do the same.  You are trying to lead a team of people and you should try and bring honor to God in the process.  It might be as simple as running a young Sunday School class, however, you should do it to honor God.  Also, you should always try and avoid threatening.  If your first response as a leader is coming down hard on someone, that is not the kind of spirit God wants.

A Leader Respects All Equally

We need to treat others the way we want to be treated.  We should not respect someone because they are in our “click” and treat someone else bad because they are not.  We need to treat people equally as a leader.  That does not mean everyone is equal.  That means we need to be fair in our judgment of people.  God is watching over the decisions we make as a leader.  We should always do what would honor the Lord.
