The Church That Cares For Your Soul

Building a House or Building a Christian Life

Proverbs 24:3-4. Through wisdom is an house builded; and by understanding it is established: And by knowledge shall the chambers be filled with all precious and pleasant riches.

It takes wisdom and understanding to build a house and then furnish it.  It takes a lot of time, effort, and money to make it happen.  It also takes a lifetime to establish a testimony as a Christian.  It takes wisdom, understanding, time, effort, and money to build a Christian life, as well.  There are many out there who have never built a house, but are professional building inspectors.  They know how a Christian should live and are quick to point out errors in godly men’s lives, but have never lived for God a day in their own lives.  As the saying goes, it takes an expert to build a wall but any donkey can knock it down.

Are you applying wisdom and understanding to establish a Christian life?  It is vitally important to maintain our testimony that we have establish. Many who have expensive houses or mansions go to great lengths to protect what they have invested in and established.  They install security systems, they have regular grounds keepers, they have regular maintenance men.  They do what is necessary to maintain a testimony of a great house.  We should do the same when we invest in our Christian lives.  We should try to maintain our Christian life.  We need to keep it so it looks sharp.  Our life should draw attention to our Lord, just like a mansion draws attention to the owner.

Having wisdom is the same as drawing up the plans for a house.  You need to have a plan for your Christian life if you are going to grow.  We need a purpose and a goal to get to the next level.  Having understanding is the same as having the ability of a good carpenter in order to carry out the plans and build the house.  We need to have understanding to make our plans happen for our Christian life.  We can say we are going to do something for the Lord, and even make a plan for it; but until we carry it out, it does us no good.  Last of all, we need knowledge if we are going to select the correct furnishings for a house.  The same is true of our Christian life.  We must be able to figure out what we need in our Christian life and what needs to be thrown out.  Are you trying to build a Christian life or are you trying to tear others down?
