The Church That Cares For Your Soul

Christ Our Example

Hebrews 4:15 – For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.

1 John 4:17 – Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world.

We must never forget Christ’s human side.  He became flesh like you and me and then dwelt among us and yet he did it without sin.  Christ rarely used supernatural power in his own daily life (walking on water was the exception and even then it was for the benefit of his disciples).  He wanted to show us this life could be lived in the flesh as our example.  He lived in a carpenter shop for all his young years.  He was tempted of the devil in the wilderness.  He even did not get the answers he wanted to a prayer when in Gethsemane.  He was tempted just like you and me.  He went through struggles and trials.

“As is he, so are we in this world.”  There is also a present tense example.  It does not say as he was in this world but as he is.  That was written by John long after he ascended to the Father.  He is in the world today as the Holy Ghost.  He dwells in the heart of every born again believer of God.  We have the same influence and a ability to overcome sin he does.  We perfect our love by living out this life with Christ as our example.  He died on the cross.  We die daily to self as Christians.  We become a light in this world just like him.  Christ is our example when he was hear 2000 years ago just as much as he is an example today.
