Cutting Away at the Life Line

Cutting Away at the Life Line

When we fret against the Lord, we are cutting away that the life line the Lord has extended to us.  A foolish man perverts or messes up the plan God has for his life by bad decisions.

Proverbs 19:3 The foolishness of man perverteth his way: and his heart fretteth against the Lord.

FRET, v.t. 1. To rub; to wear away a substance by friction; as, to fret cloth; to fret a piece of gold or other metal. 2. To corrode; to gnaw; to ear away; as, a worm frets the planks of a ship. 3. To impair; to wear away. By starts, his fretted fortunes give him hope and fear. 4. To form into raised work.

Cutting Away at the Life Line

When we fret against the Lord, we are cutting away at the life line the Lord has extended to us.  A foolish man perverts or messes up the plan God has for his life by bad decisions.  A foolish man’s heart is deceitful.  It will always lead him wrong because it is not based on the Word of God but rather on it’s own fleshly inclinations.  A wise man’s heart will lead him according to God’s Word.  It will also seek godly counsel of the man of God.  Your heart frets or wears away at wise counsel by ignoring it time after time.

Ignoring the Preaching

When you hear preaching and ignore it, it becomes light that is rejected.  Light rejected becomes lightning.  Slowly, little by little, you wear away at the good teaching you have received and you fret against the wooing of God in your life.  This happens to young people who have been raised in church and get out.  They have to go through a process of time where their heart begins to fret against the Lord and His teaching.  They begin to impair and wear away at what they know is right based on God’s Word and replace it with worldly philosophy.  Soon they lose hope and confidence in the Lord.  Eventually they have little to no faith.  They have cut away at the life line of the Lord until there is nothing left to hold them.  They are then out of church and a long way from the ship.  It is hard for them to ever get back once they cut that life line.  With God all things are possible however.  Even he can restore the years the locust has eaten and the canker worm has destroyed.
