We have to deny self of what the flesh desires or wants.  Being confident in this flesh can often lead to a downfall as it did for Peter.  The same Peter who was cutting ears off is now cursing the same God whom he was going to die for.  Things did not go his way and he got upset.  How many times has that happen to us.  We take God’s place in our life and start to call the shots and we are disappointed when God works His plan the way He wanted to.  This flesh is always going to fail you.  A humble spirit is always best.  We can’t be too hard on Peter.  We have done the same things more often than not.  The thing I like about Peter was even though he put his foot in his mouth more than once, he had a humble heart and would get right quickly.  It only took one look from the Saviour and Peter melted under the conviction as he went out and wept bitterly.  Would God it only took a look from our heaven Father and we get right when under the conviction of sin.

The trembling reed is the humble soul.  When we are humble the Lord can work with us and change us.  A reed is pliable and does not decide how it is going to stand.  It changes with the wind.  We need to be pliable with the Lord and let the wind of the Holy Ghost bend us and move us when He works on our heart.  The confident cedar is the man who trusts in the arm of the flesh.  We can be confident in our works at times or take credit for what the Lord has done in our life.  Either way we have nothing we can boast of.  We brought nothing into this world like Job said.  Who let you get saved?  Who gave you the church you have?  Who gave you a Bible and conviction of the Holy Ghost?  Who brought you the people who have helped you in your Christian life?  It was the Lord.  You have nothing to boast about.  Be confident in the Lord and thank Him for the mercies and graces He has given you.
