Engage Your Brain Before You Open Your Mouth

You need to engage your brain before you open your mouth as the saying goes.  Proverbs 15:28 is likely where this wise proverb came from.

Proverbs 15:28 The heart of the righteous studieth to answer: but the mouth of the wicked poureth out evil things.

Engage Your Brain Before You Open Your Mouth

You need to engage your brain before you open your mouth as the saying goes.  Proverbs 15:28 is likely where this wise proverb came from.  When a righteous man studies and tries to find a right answer rather than just giving an off the cuff answer, he can give wisdom from God rather than the typical evil things that come from men’s mouths.  The heart of a righteous man desires to study the Word of God to find out the answers to its problems.  You need to study your Bible not just to get a bunch of knowledge but primarily to feed your own soul.  If something is bothering you or you having trouble in a certain area of your life, the best thing to do is get in your Bible and start digging.  Run word studies is great.  Looking words up in the dictionary as you read the Bible is also helpful.

The Heart of the Righteous

It is only the heart of the righteous that really wants the answers to life.  The wicked do not want to deal with reality.  Instead they would rather pretend there are not problems.  As a result, the answers of the wicked often do not make any sense.  Just look at the way the average lost heathen deals with life and it will make your head spin.  The reason is they are just trying to do something without ever looking to God’s Word for answers.  The heart of the righteous has the mind of Christ guiding it into all truth.  The heart of the righteous is a clean heart that keeps short sin accounts with God.  You need a clean heart to study.

Studying the Bible

The Bible commands us to study to show ourselves approved by God.  We need to study to give right answers to others as well.  We need to think before we answer and base those answers on the Word of God.  The more you read and study, the more you are ready to give an answer to those that want help. A fool does not want help however.  The fool instead wants to discover his own heart.  A fool is a Narcissist in many cases.  They just want to show everyone what they know even if it does not make any sense.  Since they have little to no authority to base their answer on, they will repeat the same thing over and over to anyone who will listen.  Their words have little power and can be found out to be fake very quickly.  But someone who studies the Word of God for answers to life’s questions is a wise servant.  They will truly be able to help those that want it.
