Fringes of Rememberance

God commanded the children of Israel to put fringes of remembrance in the borders of their garments so they would look at them and remember God's commands throughout the day.

Numbers 15:37-39. And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying, Speak unto the children of Israel, and bid them that they make them fringes in the borders of their garments throughout their generations, and that they put upon the fringe of the borders a ribband of blue:  And it shall be unto you for a fringe, that ye may look upon it, and remember all the commandments of the Lord, and do them; and that ye seek not after your own heart and your own eyes, after which ye use to go a whoring:

Fringes of Rememberance

God commanded the children of Israel to put fringes of remembrance in the borders of their garments so they would look at them and remember God’s commands throughout the day.  If you look at some modern Jewish men, you can still see these fringes or cords on their garments.  God wants us to remember his commands.  Memorizing the word of God is very important.  It is something we need to instill in our children while their minds are fresh like sponges.  Children can learn a lot of Bible.  Bible quizzing is a great opportunity that provides a mechanism so your children can memorize a lot of Bible.  You are depriving your children of a great opportunity if they are not involved in Bible quizzing.

Don’t Seek Your Own Heart

God wants to make sure that we don’t seek after our own heart and our own eyes.  If you don’t remember God’s commands, it is pretty well guaranteed that you will go after the world and the lusts of the flesh.  It is so important that we remember where the Lord brought us from.  The children of Israel were out in the desert and never had a real good view of where they came from.  They forgot being slaves and the hard bondage.  All they could remember is the leeks and garlic.  That is like us.  We remember the good things from our past but forget the cruel task master the world was to us.  If we could get a real good picture of the condition we were in when the Lord saved us, we would never want to go back to Eygpt.  Instead we would look at the fringes of remembrance and just praise God for being good to us.
