The Church That Cares For Your Soul

God Can Make You Hate Sin

Numbers 11:20 But even a whole month, until it come out at your nostrils, and it be loathsome unto you: because that ye have despised the Lord which is among you, and have wept before him, saying, Why came we forth out of Egypt?

God Can Make You Hate Sin

God can change your heart toward sin.  The children of Israel decided they got tired of manna and instead wanted some chicken wings.  God fixed their wagon.  He gave them quail for a whole month until it was coming out their nostrils.  God can make you hate sin if he really wants to.  He can get you so tired of it that you finally just hate the thought of it.  The things we think we have to have in this world will eventually become what we despise.

He can tell how to make that loathsome to thee on which thou most dost set thine evil heart. And he will do so, if he loves thee; else, as I said, he will not make thee sick by smiting of thee nor punish thee for or when thou committest whoredom, but will let thee alone till the judgment-day, and call thee to a reckoning for all thy sins then. – John Bunyan – The Acceptable Sacrifice – The Excellency of a Broken Spirit

The Can Fix Our Wants

The Lord can fix our wants and desires and make them line up with what He wants for our lives.  God can make us willing to go and do what he desires.  The children of Israel thought they wanted some meat more than God’s provision.  They were not content with what God provided in the manna.  Sometimes what God provides can get monotonous.  I am not sure we would be much more spiritual after having a diet that solely consisted of one item for day after day.  It says in this passage that the children of Israel “despised” the Lord when they did not accept God’s provision.  When you are unhappy with God’s will for your life, you show that you despise or hate the Lord.  You are telling God you deserve better.  That is pride.  These Israelites thought they deserved better fare from the Lord.  They wanted to go back to the world and the ways of the world.  They thought what they had before they were saved was better.  We need to make sure we don’t despise the Lord and want to go back to what we had in Egypt.
