The Church That Cares For Your Soul

God Gave You Two Ears and One Mouth

Psalms 50:19-21. Thou givest thy mouth to evil, and thy tongue frameth deceit. Thou sittest and speakest against thy brother; thou slanderest thine own mother’s son. These things hast thou done, and I kept silence; thou thoughtest that I was altogether such an one as thyself: but I will reprove thee, and set them in order before thine eyes.

We Think We Can Talk Bad About Anyone

We think we can talk bad about anyone we want to.  We think that God does not see or that He thinks like we do.  He doesn’t though.  When you talk bad about people, you are as far from God’s thoughts as you can be. Even the angels have enough sense to not talk bad about the devil and they don’t say anything.  God’s silence on the subject does not mean He condones your actions.  We need to have kind and pleasant words come out of our mouth.  That is going to require you to think before you speak.  That is not always an easy task.

The Mouth Speaks What is in Our Heart

The problem is our mouth speaks what is in our heart.  Our heart is deceitful and desperately wicked.  We often don’t even know the depths of depravity that lies there.  Eventually, evil is going to come out of your mouth.  What we need is to have control over it just like a bridle on a horse.  You can’t let your heart win out and say whatever it wants against people.  Slandering people is not a good thing, even when they may deserve it.  Sometimes it is better to not say anything at all if someone is plain bad to the bone.

God Gave You Two Ears and One Mouth

God is going to eventually reprove and rebuke you for an evil mouth.  He is going to set things in order, if not in this life, then in the next.  Let’s try to guard our tongue and let the Holy Ghost control the reins.  Charity is what should control and dominate our speech.  A gentle rebuke of a brother when their speech starts to get critical will help the situation.  Lying with the tongue is the worst.  Framing deceit is working at telling a lie.  You have to come up with some grand story to make yourself look good in order to get attention.  Use your tongue to encourage others.  God gave you two ears and one mouth.  That is so you are more ready to hear than to speak.  Use your mouth wisely and be slow to speak today.
