The Church That Cares For Your Soul

God Needs Us

Psalms 144:3 – Lord, what is man, that thou takest knowledge of him! or the son of man, that thou makest account of him!

Luke 15:4 – What man of you, having an hundred sheep, if he lose one of them, doth not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost, until he find it?

I was listening to Lanny Hasbrook preach.  He preached about God needing us.  That is not what you normally hear.  You normally hear that God does not need us but we need him.  However, that is not what the Bible teaches.  God seeks sinners out.  He loves sinners.  We wonder why God would even care about us but the Word of God reveals he needs us.  He craves or desires seeing sinners getting saved.  He loved the world so much he gave himself for us.  It is in His nature to forgive and love sinners.

God left the ninety and nine to find one lost sheep.  If he was human, he would consider that a reasonable loss and move on.  But God finds great value in us and gave his blood for us.  He was willing to leave heaven and come to earth to save us.  Why would someone do that if they didn’t  need to?  The reason God needs us is He finds us valuable.  What is valuable to us, we are willing to pay any price.  Food and clothing are pretty valuable to us, so we are willing to invest in them.  David asked what is man that God would even take knowledge of him.  But God does not see it that way.  Man was created for God and His pleasure. We only bring God pleasure when he can fellowship with us.  He needs our fellowship.  He needed WILLING fellowship not robotic fellowship.  Otherwise the angels would have provided what he needed but they did not.   If He didn’t need our fellowship, He would not have created us.

I realize we are worthless without the Lord, but God needs our fellowship or he would not have created us and sought us out.  If he did not need us, he would have just let the whole human race wallow in sin and start over some place else or just forget about man.  But he didn’t.  He sought us out.  God did not save you just for you.  He saved you for himself.  You will be worshipping him for all time and eternity.  God needs us.  What a comforting thought to know that the God of the universe needs us.  I need to be needed.
