God’s Calling

Proverbs 1:24-25 Because I have called, and ye refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no man regarded; But ye have set at nought all my counsel, and would none of my reproof:

Listening For God’s Calling

There are many who refuse to listen to God.  They have the Word of God placed before them; it reproves their life, and they want nothing to do with it.  When God places a calling or direction on our life, he has a job for us to do.  That job for us to do is for God’s benefit.  It also is for our benefit; it helps us to grow as a Christian and produces rewards in heaven that will abound to our account.  To refuse the calling of God on our life is foolish.  We often balk at God’s calling because it is not always the most easy and comfortable path in life.  It will often go against our flesh and possibly cause us to sacrifice or give something up we think we really need.  In reality, there are far more blessings in life when we yield to the calling of God for our life.

Help for God’s Calling

When God stretches out his hand, that implies he is providing the help we need to accomplish His call on our life.  When the Lord gives us instruction and shows us His calling for our life, He does not just leave us alone to accomplish the task; He gives us the help we need to make it happen.  Our problem is that we fail to recognize His help and regard it of little worth.  The reason we may not regard it is because it comes in a form we don’t want to recognize; help from someone or something whom we consider below us.  It is pride when we fail to take the help God provides.

Course Correcting for God’s Calling

God provides a lot of counsel in our lives, including daily devotions and good Bible preaching.  When we set aside the reproof from these two main sources of counsel in our life, we are bound to be headed for destruction.  When you “set at nought” something, you are putting a very low value on it.  You are saying it is something I don’t really need to listen to.  When we do that, with the gentle pleadings of the Holy Ghost on our heart, we are not in a good position.  That is the only way you are going to get things right in your life and accomplish God’s will for your life.  Having a walk with God is primarily getting moving in the direction that you understand from God’s word and prayer, and then doing a series of “course corrections” as God reproves you along the way.  When you fail to course correct, you are bound to go off the road, sooner or later.  Let God help you in His calling for your life today.
