Going to Battle With the Army You Have – Making Decisions

Proverbs 21:31 – The horse is prepared against the day of battle: but safety is of the Lord.

Proverbs 11:14 – Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counsellors there is safety.

Romans 12:2 – And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

It isn’t a matter of money. It isn’t a matter on the part of the army of desire. It’s a matter of production and capability of doing it. As you know, ah, you go to war with the army you have—not the army you might want or wish to have at a later time.—You can have all the armor in the world on a tank and it can (still) be blown up…   Donald Rumsfeld – Former Secretary of Defense

In war, you make plans, you prepare, you seek counsel, you get everything positioned and you make ready for battle, but in the end, safety is of the Lord and you do the best you can do.  You have to go to war with the army you have today as Donald Rumsfeld wisely said.  He realized that life is dynamic and you just can’t stop or sit around and wait for everything to be perfect before you move ahead.  I have that strong, German, perfectionist background and often have trouble making decisions and moving forward because everything is never quite ready.  That hinders faith at times and just making good decisions based on faith.

When making godly decisions, it is important to be filled with God’s spirit.  It is putting Romans 12:2 into practice everyday so you can make decisions that are in line with God’s will for your life.  You prove or determine the will of God in your life by not being conformed or molded to this world.  You also need to renew or cleanse your mind in the Word of God.  Perspective is very important.

A new gun when it is made is “proofed.”  A charge is loaded into the gun significantly larger than what the gun was designed for and then shot.  If the gun can handled the higher pressure it is said to pass proof testing.  How about you, have you passed “proof” testing?  Has God pushed you beyond your design limit and tested you in a high pressure situation,  did you hold together and did not blow up?  Are you still making godly decisions and proving the will of God in your life?

Every day you need to make decisions.  Some will be big and some will be small.  Several bad small decisions can be just as bad as one big one.  The little foxes spoil the vine.  It is important that we are prepare for battle every day.  We need to make sure we got the ammo loaded and we are ready for the enemies attacks.  Once you are prepared though, there is nothing else you can do.  Your are ready to try God out and prove the will of God in your life.  You need to move ahead with the army you have today.  There is no going back to your prayer closet.  You just need to trust God and move out.
