The Church That Cares For Your Soul
Having Compassion

Having Compassion

Having compassion, especially with those that are closest to us, is often difficult.  The reason is pretty simple.  We value our life too highly.

1 Peter 3:8-9 Finally, be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous: Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing: but contrariwise blessing; knowing that ye are thereunto called, that ye should inherit a blessing.

Having Compassion

Having compassion, especially with those that are closest to us, is often difficult.  The reason is pretty simple.  We value our life too highly.  We think we deserve better than we got.  It kind of boils down to a lack of contentment.  Having compassion is similar to having mercy.  You give someone something they do not deserve.  With compassion, you enter into the suffering of another willingly when you do not have to.  You love them at the same time you suffer with them.  That is the way brethren should be.  We should love one another when we see each other going through things and are willing to lend a hand.  That does not mean you should wallow in pity when someone else is wallowing in pity.  What you should do is be the eyes and ears for someone when circumstances cause them to not be at top of their spiritual game.  You need to remind them of God’s promises and encourage them.

Blessing Rather than a Railing

When someone is going through a trial and needs some compassion, we should give them a blessing rather than throwing the problem back in their face.  Sometimes, good, honest Biblical advice that may hurt a little is better than having “cry party” or a “group hug”.  You should do it courteously and with grace.  Iron sharpens iron.  That is suprising to me.  Like substances can sharpen each other.  The reason that works is the iron sharpening instrument is harder than the iron blade.

Consider The Pit You Came From Before You Give Advise

The Bible say, he which is spiritual should restore a brother in meekness considering himself lest he also be tempted.  You need to remember the pit you came from before you give advice.  We need to realize we are iron trying to sharpen iron.  We are made of the same stuff we are trying to fix in another.  That is why you need to get that mote out your eye first to help.  If you do it with meekness and fear, you can help.  If you do it in judgment and condemnation, you will destroy.  You also need to be careful when trying to help some.  This does not work with fools.  Only the wise is going to take counsel and be helped by Bible compassion.  You need to know which one you are dealing with before you start if you can.  Also, you are not called of God to go around correcting people.  If you think you are, you are a conceited fool.  Have compassion on others as you try to help them.  It is not always easy but we are commanded from the Bible to love the brethren.  God will be pleased and you will inherit a blessing.
