The Church That Cares For Your Soul

Holding Your Peace

Sometimes holding your peace and not speaking your mind about someone is best.

Proverbs 11:12 He that is void of wisdom despiseth his neighbour: but a man of understanding holdeth his peace.

Holding Your Peace

Sometimes holding your peace and not speaking your mind about someone is best.  If the angels did not bring a railing accusation against the devil when talking to him about Moses’s body, surely we could hold our tongue when someone says something we do not like.  This verse says that when you have no wisdom or discernment, you despise people.  If you had a better attitude toward people and did not think so highly of your self and so bad of others, you would not get upset as easily.  It would then be a whole lot easier to hold your peace.  When we get upset about things and riled up when someone crosses us or says mean things to us, we show we lack wisdom and understanding.  If we realized that it only matters what God thinks of us that really matters, then we could have other falsely, or rightly, accuse us and it would not bother us.  It is because of pride and thinking highly of ourselves that we get upset and cannot hold our peace.

Void of Wisdom

When someone is void of wisdom, that means there is a lack of ability to apply rational Biblical thinking to the situation at hand.  Someone that cannot apply the Bible to their life is void of wisdom.  When you see things the way God sees things, you have God’s wisdom and understanding of the situation.  When that happens, you no longer despise people that grate against you but rather you love them like the Lord loves them.  God so loved the world that He gave.  We should be willing to give of ourselves just like He did if we have His wisdom.  Are you void of Biblical wisdom?  Can you over rule your feelings and desires with wisdom from the Bible?  That is what you need to do if you are ever going to hold your peace and be a spirit filled Christian.
