The Church That Cares For Your Soul

Holy Instruments for War

Moses sent them to war with holy instruments. Our military used to put good chaplains in the ranks to preach the Word and encourage men for battle.

Numbers 31:6 And Moses sent them to the war, a thousand of every tribe, them and Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest, to the war, with the holy instruments, and the trumpets to blow in his hand.

Holy Instruments for War

Moses sent them to war with holy instruments.  Our military used to put good chaplains in the ranks to preach the Word and encourage men for battle.  They are a dying breed with the exception of Robbie Morrison and the All Points Mission Board that is a Chaplin endorser for U.S. Dept. of Defense.  We need godly men among our soldiers just like Phinehas and Eleazar.  There was always a spiritual aspect to all the war the children of Israel conducted.  Keeping the Lord at the forefront of the battle is very important.  I am not sure what all the holy instruments were that they took to war but they definitely had trumpets.  Trumpets were used to signal the trumps and provide instructions on what to do next.  Different songs or short tunes were used to tell the troops to march forward, retreat, attack, left flank or other commands.  Organization and communication in battle often decides the outcome.  The army needs to function as a unit and everyone needs to move at the same time.  The holy instruments provide the correct timing for movement.  As a soldier progresses he can execute more and more complicated maneuvers.  A trumpeter or burglar needed to know a lot of calls in order to execute these.

A Spiritual Battle

We are often in a spiritual battle.  The holy instruments we use need to communicate instructions so the battle can be won.  The trumpet of the Word of God preached by the Man of God communicates the battle plan to us.  It is very important that we listen and receive the correct instruction.  If not, we will head off in the wrong direction.  God also has a timing for his instructions.  There is a time and a season for everything.  God shows us what we need when we need it.  The instruction usually comes right at the critcal moment.  As we mature we can understand the deeper and more complicated things of God.  Thank God for the Word of God and his man that sounds the battle cry and like Isaiah, lifts the trumpet and preaches the truth whether they will hear or ignore his commands.  The battle is the Lord’s and as good soldiers, we should try and serve the Lord with gladness and be ready to listen for his holy instruments to give us his commands.  We need to know the commands too so we can like the bugler communicate it to others.
