The Church That Cares For Your Soul

Instruction in the Night Season of Life

Psalms 16:7. I will bless the Lord, who hath given me counsel: my reins also instruct me in the night seasons.

The Lord has given counsel or instruction to those who want it.  Those who do not want counsel will continue in their ways and pay for it.  Refusing good counsel is dangerous.  It talks of reins providing instruction to the Christian here.  Reins are used to control the horse.  They are hooked to the bridle and bit.  They are used to pull on bridle in order to indicate a direction to turn.  The reins are most important in the night seasons when you cannot see.  The horse can feel the pull of the reins and can be guided, day or night.

You might not always be able to see the Lord, but you can still feel the tug of the Holy Ghost on your heart.  He cannot provide instruction in the day as easily as he can in the night.  During the day, the horse can see where he is going and may decide to ignore the reins and then go it alone.  The same is true of the Christian.  When we walk by sight, we may to try and ignore the tug of God on our heart and just go it alone.  In the dark, you have no other option than to trust the reins.  When we are most desperate is when the Lord can have the most control of our heart.

We need to let the Lord have control of our lives, especially in the dark.  The night season is when God can talk to us.  In the day we are just too busy.  Slow down and try and get alone with God.  He needs to instruct you.  Don’t get so busy that you don’t have a quiet time with God.  Let him bring you to that dark place so that you can feel the reins again.  Rejoice when he does pull on the reins of your heart.  It shows that you are His.
