Light Pollution and the World

Light pollution is the astronomers worst enemy.  It cause him to miss millions of stars he would  normally not see.  In the same manner, the pollution of this world cause the Christian not to see the many spiritual blessings the Lord provides.

Genesis 22:17. That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies;

Light Pollution and the World

Light pollution is the astronomers worst enemy.  It cause him to miss millions of stars he would  normally not see.  In the same manner, the pollution of this world cause the Christian not to see the many spiritual blessings the Lord provides.  The fine detail of the constellations and galaxies we miss for two reasons.  First, many of the stars are so dim they get washed out by the light that bleeds around the horizon.  The astrometry calls this “light pollution” because it pollutes the image he is trying to see.  Second, the smaller stars are not seen because the human eye can not see with fine enough resolution.  The invention of the telescope by Hans Lippershey in 1608 opened a whole new world to the astronomer.

Seeing Properly as a Christian

The Christian needs to see the things of God and the things of the world in proper perspective.  The world tends to pollute the light of the Word of God on our souls.  We tend to miss the fine details and the beauty of heaven and spiritual things when we clouded by the flesh and the world.  We can only see the big stars that are very bright.  The more you get away from the world, the more you can see all the millions of stars of God’s spiritual universe.  The same is true of the astronomer.  They will often drive long distances to get to the few spots that exist in the U.S. that are free of light.  They then stay up all night in the freezing cold to look at the night sky through some very nice telescopes.  Like the astronomer, do we invest the time it takes to draw the details out of a closer walk with God and a real knowledge of God from His Word?  We need to see clearly to understand how light pollution and the world dims our view of God and His Word.
