The Church That Cares For Your Soul
Master Mediator and Messiah

Master, Mediator, and Messiah

When the Phillipian jailer got saved in the book of Acts, he accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as Master, Mediator, and Messiah all at once. Vance Haver – Sermon entitled “Jesus Is Lord”

When Paul told the jailer how to be saved, he told him to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ.  That is three titles.  You must take Him for all three.

Acts 16:31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.

KJV 1611

Master

Master – A lord; a ruler; one who has supreme dominion.  One who has possession, and the power of controlling or using at pleasure. Webster’s 1828

The title Lord implies master.  You may not have totally understood what that meant when you got saved, but you cannot knowingly reject Him as master of your life and come to Him by faith.  I realize we all have a little bit of rebellion still in us, but that does not make you a rebel.  If you have not truly submitted to Him, then how can you believe on the “Lord” or master Jesus Christ.  I am probably not going to take it as far as the Lordship Salvation crowd.  They say if He is not Lord of all, He is not Lord at all.  But you must recognize and understand what that means at some point.

Mediator

Mediator – One that interposes between parties at variance for the purpose of reconciling them. Webster’s 1828

The title Jesus implies mediator.  Next Jesus needs to be your mediator between you and God.  We would call that an advocate or lawyer in our modern vernacular.  Jesus argues your case before the Father.   He is your Jesus, He is you mediator.  We pray to the Father through our mediator.  As Jesus said, if you are going to know the Father, you must know the Son.  I was an enemy of God before I got saved.  I did not know the judge, but I knew the judges Son.  It is not what you know but who you know that often matters in life.  I knew or believed on Jesus.  He got all my charges dropped and wiped away.

Messiah

Messiah – Christ, the anointed; the Savior of the world.  Webster’s 1828

The title Christ implies messiah.  The Christ or Messiah to my place by His death on the cross.  He took my sin upon His body while hanging on the tree.  He did more than that, he also took my place in hell.  When he died on the cross, he descended into hell and took my place.  He also took my sin by His death on the cross.  He took it all.  He did the same for you too if you let Him.

All Three

Did you take all three when you got saved?  Did you take everything there is in the Lord Jesus Christ.  He is our Master, Mediator, and Messiah.
