The Church That Cares For Your Soul

Never Doubt in the Dark What God Has Shown in the Light

Isaiah 50:10-11 Who is among you that feareth the Lord, that obeyeth the voice of his servant, that walketh in darkness, and hath no light? let him trust in the name of the Lord, and stay upon his God. Behold, all ye that kindle a fire, that compass yourselves about with sparks: walk in the light of your fire, and in the sparks that ye have kindled. This shall ye have of mine hand; ye shall lie down in sorrow.

Never pump up joy and confidence, but stay upon God. – Oswald Chambers – My Utmost For His Highest

Never Doubt in the Dark What God Has Shown in the Light

Vance Havner used to say you should never doubt in the dark what God has shown in the light.  When God makes something clear, you need to stay on that path.  “First orders are from headquarters” as a famous preacher once said.  The same is true when God has revealed something to us and we go through a trial while we wait on him.  Abraham had a promise of an Isaac almost 13 years before God made good on it.  With the exception of a minor excursion with Ishmael, Abraham continued to wait upon God.  His heart and mind were stayed on His purpose.

Never Pump Up Joy and Confidence

Oswald Chambers said we should never pump up joy and confidence.  Instead we should keep our hearts and minds stayed or planted on the Lord.  You can be going through trial after trial and still have your heart stayed on the Lord.  You likely will not have a lot of joy and your confidence in God may wain, but you should just rest in the Lord.  You should not pretend to have joy just to make a show for everyone else.  Real joy should come from the Lord.  Yes, sometimes you should “shout on credit” and praise God anyway.  But God has to give joy.  Don’t begin to doubt God and His promises when it is dark.  Continue to trust what He has shown you through the light of His word, even when it is darkest in your life.
