Not Getting Mad When Someone Does You Wrong

Proverbs 17:9. He that covereth a transgression seeketh love; but he that repeateth a matter separateth very friends.

Getting Mad When Someone Does You Wrong

Many of us get mad when someone does us wrong.  When someone transgresses or does something wrong against us, we have a choice.  We can seek love or we can seek hate.  We can get bitter or we can get better.  Covering a transgression is going the second mile.  Not only are you forgetting it, you are doing your best to make the other feel comfortable around you.  You make sure that you do not bring it up, or even let it bother you.  That is real Christian love.  Charity never fails.  It works every time if we will practice it.  There is no transgression that cannot be covered by charity.  There are a couple of key things that are important if we are going to deal with transgressions against us.

Covering it Up

First, we need to cover it up. That does not mean we deal lightly with sin. This is talking about how we deal with someone doing us wrong. We need to hide or conceal the matter from others, especially the one who transgresses against us. We must not be the first person who tells something bad about someone. When you run around telling everyone about how someone did you wrong, that is not covering a transgression.  That is making it known.

Keeping Your Mouth Shut

Next, we should not repeat the matter.  We need to make sure that we don’t tell others about it. You need to just keep your mouth shut. We all like to tell everyone about how someone has done us wrong, especially when they are not saved. You do not have a right to run your mouth about a certain class of people (saved, lost, poor, etc.). As a Christian, it is your duty to let charity prevail, and then to not repeat or tell others. This is ever more true of a friend. If you keep letting your friend (i.e. Your Spouse) know about something they did everytime you have a fight, that is repeating a matter. It will kill a friendship.  Sometimes, it is best to not say anything at all when it is bad stuff.  Do you get mad when someone does you wrong; or do you have charity, cover the transgression, and then keep your mouth shut?
