The Church That Cares For Your Soul
Singleness

Singleness

Singleness is often looked at as a bad thing.  The Bible makes it clear it can be a good thing.  If one uses it to focus ones life on God, it can yield a life that is set aside in body and spirit.

1 Corinthians 7:34 There is difference also between a wife and a virgin. The unmarried woman careth for the things of the Lord, that she may be holy both in body and in spirit: but she that is married careth for the things of the world, how she may please her husband.

I think many young people, especially young ladies, get so focused on getting married, it is all they think about.

They are planning weddings, thinking of having babies, and dreaming about their knight in shining armor.  Keeping yourself pure before marriage is so important as well.  With young men it is often thoughts and lusts of the flesh that drive them.  All these things are things of the world.  They can get your mind off the Lord if you are not careful.

Paul is drawing a contrast between singleness and married life.  Single life allows you to focus on the Lord.

Married life comes with a lot of cares of the world.

I think a lot of young people miss an opportunity they will likely never get again in life to wholly serve the Lord with an extreme zeal.  You will likely never have as much time in your life again to put into the ministry as when you are single.  You can pray more, you can study more, you can visit more, you can minister more, and  you can read more.  If you are caught up in the things of the world and living it up with any and all carnal pleasure, you are not taking advantage of your singleness.

Singleness is a blessing from the Lord.

Don’t let this phase of life pass you by and waste it on the world.  Do all you can for the Lord now. Give the Lord the best years of your life.  Don’t get so focused on marriage that you lose focus of the Lord.  The more you focus on the Lord, the better companion you will make once the Lord does bring you a mate.  Why not put your energy in making yourself a good husband or wife in the future?  That is a lot better than coming up with your laundry list of 50 things you expect in a wife or husband.

Singleness can be a blessing from the Lord if you let it work in your life.  Thank God for it today.  And if you are married, thank God for your spouse and let them know that you love them.
