The Church That Cares For Your Soul

Taking Counsel in Your Own Soul

Psalms 13:2 How long shall I take counsel in my soul, having sorrow in my heart daily? how long shall mine enemy be exalted over me?

Consider Your Soul

It is important that we consider our soul.  Taking counsel in your own soul daily is a good thing.  We need to check up on our heart regularly.  We will go through trials and troubles in our life that cause sorrow of the heart.  They can be a daily occurrence for the Christian, just as they were for David.  Sorrow can overwhelm the Christian if we succumb to it.  We need to realize that God is greater than all our problems.  We may go through a long spell where our enemy, including the great enemy of our soul, triumphs over us, day after day.  Sometimes it seems like our enemies are esteemed and exalted over us.  In the end, the Lord will always get the glory.

Taking Wise Counsel

When we take counsel, we take advice or listen to others that are wiser than us.  If we listen to God’s Spirit, as he speaks through his word to our soul, we can learn and grow.  That Spirit is the great Comforter that was sent to get us through life’s trials and troubles.  But like anything, you can refuse.  Many will not take counsel.  The fool is the one in the Bible who refuses to listen and take counsel. The wise will always listen.  At any given time, we can be a fool or be wise.  Sometimes, it seems like we never get the answers we want.  Often, the answer is that we need to keep going through a trial, while we continue to learn of the Spirit, to grow in patience and other virtues.  That is not the answer we want to hear.  But that is good counsel for our soul.  Take the counsel in your soul that the Lord has given you.  It will help you through the sorrows of life.
