The Church That Cares For Your Soul

The Arm of the Flesh

The arm of the flesh will fail you.  You cannot do things in your own strength and succeed.

2 Chronicles 32:8 With him is an arm of flesh; but with us is the Lord our God to help us, and to fight our battles. And the people rested themselves upon the words of Hezekiah king of Judah.

Isaiah 63:5 And I looked, and there was none to help; and I wondered that there was none to uphold: therefore mine own arm brought salvation unto me; and my fury, it upheld me.

Just Make it Happen

We often try to make things happen on our own.  When Samuel or the Lord does not show up when we expect Him to, we often force ourselves and move ahead with the arm of the flesh.  It is harder to wait sometimes than just to act.  It does not take faith.  We can use credit, start something on our own, just get in there like an old fashioned American and pull ourselves up by our own bootstraps.

When The Arm of Flesh Won’t Work

The problem is when the Lord backs us in a corner so tight that the only thing that will work is a heavenly intervention.  God knows our British tricks and how we wiggle out of problems without Him anytime we can. The way around that is He just makes a problem we can’t solve.  A problem only He can fix.  Now we have to turn to the Word of God for answers.  Now we need Him to move on us and give us the fruit of the Spirit we cannot produce.  We need a little love, joy and peace to make it through a trial.  We need some longsuffering with a brother or sister we can’t produce.  We need God.

The Lord Our Help

The Lord is really the only one who can really help.  We need Him to fight our battles.  You own arm cannot produce salvation.  Only the Lord truly can.  The is our help in any circumstance but especially in the desperate ones.  We the Lord wroughts the victory there will follow peace.  There is a calming of our spirit when God shows up and fixes things.  That is because we learn faith through trials when God delivers.  The arm of the flesh will fail you but the Lord will help you to overcome.
