The Church That Cares For Your Soul

The Golden Rule

The golden rule for your life and mine is this concentrated keeping of the life open towards God. – My Utmost for His Highest – Oswald Chambers

Proverbs 4:23 Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.

The Golden Rule

The golden rule according to Oswald Chambers is keeping our life concentrated and open towards God. I think sometimes we are easily distracted, even by seemingly good things.  Our main job as a Christian is to love God.  Everything else is secondary.  It takes some diligence to keep our concentration or main focus on the Lord throughout the day.  It is a battle.  You may need to listen to a little extra preaching, read some extra Bible, read extra Christian literature, just to be able to keep your concentration in the Lord.  This is how you keep your heart with a diligence.  It is easy to snap at others or be cross when our heart is not right.  The issues of life will soon over take you when your focus becomes wrong.

Keeping

Keeping is a naval term.  It has to do with keeping the ship on a straight course.  With modern GPS, this is not as difficult as it used to be when ships had to navigate by stars.  Keeping your heart is not always easy either.  We have a lot more at our fingertips today so it should be easier.  But in reality, the things of the world are more dominate.  We have to put more in just to kind of stay right with God.  We need a life that is open and honest toward God.  We need to be focused on Him if we are going to stay on course.  That is the golden rule according to Chambers.  That is the way a Christian should live.
