The Last Enemy

Romans 5:12 – Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:

1 Corinthians 15:26 – The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.

1 Corinthians 15:55 – O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?

The last enemy is death.  When Christ comes back to set up his kingdom on this earth, the last enemy he will defeat is death.  Sin has been a curse on this world for the last 6000 years.  Death is a direct result of sin regardless of what science teaches you.  I believe even animals suffer because of the curse of man’s sin.  But the Bible makes it clear the last thing that Christ is going to deal with is death.

Sin entered the world by one man and sin and the effects of sin will be taken away by one man.  Adam started it and Christ will finish it.  Death has a sting to it.  It hurts.  Almost everyone who leaves this world has to go through some kind of pain when they die.  For some the pain is just the beginning of more pain in eternity.  For others the pain is the last they will ever feel.  For the saint of God, death has lost its sting.  It does not hurt forever.  It is over at some point.  There is no victory for the grave for the born-again Christian.  The grave can not stop the resurrection.  We will one day rise again and have a body like His glorious body.

Sin never affects just yourself.  Adam’s sin plunged the whole human race into death and death by sin.  When we go against God’s law we affect not just ourselves but those around us like our family, friends and neighbors.  You are not an island unto yourself.  But ultimately everyone of us must give account of himself to God for his own sin.  It also will eventually kill you.  The only reason you have eternal life is because Christ took away sin that produces death.  The opposite of eternal life is eternal death.

The absence of sin produces life just like the presence of sin produces death.

The blood of Jesus Christ cleanses or washes away all our sin.  That produces life.  That destroys death.  Praise God!
