The Church That Cares For Your Soul

True Repentance

2 Corinthians 7:11. For behold this selfsame thing, that ye sorrowed after a godly sort, what carefulness it wrought in you, yea, what clearing of yourselves, yea, what indignation, yea, what fear, yea, what vehement desire, yea, what zeal, yea, what revenge! In all things ye have approved yourselves to be clear in this matter.

True Repentance

True repentance will change your actions.  True repentance comes, first of all, from godly sorrow.  The sorrow of the world only works death and never produces life.  When someone gets saved and true repentance is involved, it will produce a careful Christian.  A careful Christian will watch what he says.  He will make sure he is above reproach, that he is clear in all matters.  He will have a hatred of sin and a strong desire to live for God.  It seems that true repentance is not something that happens in salvation much nowadays.

Broken About Sin

Godly sorrow and true repentance will produce a heart that is broken about its own sin.  It will cause you to draw nigh to God.  The closer you get to God, the more sin will be revealed in your life.  The sin was always there in your life; you were just not aware of it, until you started to be careful about your walk.  True repentance will produce restitution in your life as you try to clear up the wrongs in your life from before you were saved and from after you are saved.

A Zeal for God

True repentance will also produce a zeal in your life.  You will have a strong desire for the things of God.  You will want to read the Bible and good, godly books.  You will want to have a productive prayer life.  You will want to take revenge on the sin in your life and make up for lost time.  True repentance will allow the Spirit of God to have control of your life as it produces a humbleness about sin.  You will not be judgmental of others; but you will be loving, kind, and forgiving.  Do you have true repentance or do you have only worldly sorrow for getting caught?
