Unwilling to Embrace the Gospel

Unwilling to Embrace the Gospel

People are unwilling to embrace the gospel than to try and work their way to heaven.

1 Corinthians 1:18 For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.

What is the reason that the heart of man is more unwilling to embrace the Gospel than to acknowledge the equity of the law?  Because there is more of God’s nature and perfection evident in the Gospel than in the law; because there is more reliance on God, and distance from self, commanded in the Gospel.  Stephen Charnock – 1628-1680

Unwilling to Embrace the Gospel

People are unwilling to embrace the gospel than to try and work their way to heaven.  People like to depend on themselves when it comes down to it.  Pride is what got Satan kicked out of heaven and it is what will keep many a man and women from getting into heaven.  When we have to trust total in the Lord Jesus Christ and him alone for salvation, we have to let go of all our attempts at trying to keep the law, no matter how foolish or worthless they are.  The cross kind of puts the thief on the same level as the person who has lived a clean life.  It levels every one out.  No body gets more salvation than someone else because it is not earned.  That is why in the wisdom of man the preaching of the cross is so foolish.

The Power of God

It is God’s power that saves and not our power.  The law allows someone to work in their own power.  The problem is no one can keep the whole law.  Everyone is guilty at some point.  At that point all you have left to rely on is the power of God.  That might seem foolish to the natural man, but in God’s economy there is nothing better.  God is interested in faith.  It was faith that always turned the head of Jesus while on this earth.  He marveled at faith that was great.  He said how just a small amount of faith could do great things like move mountains.  The power of God is obtained by faith in the Lord Jesus.  The power to save, the power to keep us, and the power to carry us through.
