Romans 14:1-2 – Him that is weak in the faith receive ye, but not to doubtful disputations. For one believeth that he may eat all things: another, who is weak, eateth herbs.
James 4:17 – Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.
When someone asks “Whats wrong with ….?”, they are asking the wrong question. What they are really saying is “How worldly can I be and still be a Christian?” If you have to ask the question in the first place, it is likely doubtful and hence sin. I don’t have to do drugs or drink alcohol to know it wrong. I can see the evidence or results by looking at those who do. The same goes for other things as well that are doubtful. A real Christian will want to live as far from the world as he can. He will never make the first date. He wants to live holy because he wants to be close to God. He won’t do the doubtful thing even the first time. Why is it Christians have to see how close they can get to the world. Why not see how close you can get to Jesus Christ. Let’s discuss a few things.
- You Should Never Get too Close to Worldly Friends – Friends who are worldly, “Christian” or lost, are only going to pull you down. You need to just stay away from them or witness to them. The same thing goes for potential spouses. A potential worldly spouse should not even cross your radar. Evil communications are always going to corrupt good manners. The evil will always pull down the good eventually.
- You Should Never Partake of Worldly Fashions – If it smacks of the world, then don’t even consider it. Godly, modest dress for men and women is God’s way. If you are not going to fornicate, why would you wear clothing that advertises different parts of your body. That is what the harlot does in Proverbs. Tight fitting clothing for guys or gals is worldly and sensual. God does not like either and neither should you if you want to please God and live a holy life. The current worldly fashions are very sensual. Stay away from them.
- You Should Never Read Worldly Books – Worldly books and internet are only going to pull you down. God’s people do not want to take the time to read good, godly books that will grow them spiritually. They will read about everything else. I am not sure if “Christian Romance Novels” are just a cloak for feeding the flesh. In Puritan times they would preach against any kind of novel. What is wrong with reading something that will put your flesh down and exalt Jesus Christ. There is plenty of good, uplifting devotional and doctrinal material out there. Most of the modern stuff is junk. Read something that is going to help you.
Why not try and stay away from questionable worldly things. If it is doubtful, don’t do it. If it will grow you as Christian do it.
