The Church That Cares For Your Soul

Young Saints

1 Timothy 4:12 Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.

Young Saints are the Strength of the Church

Many older saints despise younger saints.  They feel that they are not worthy of being paid attention to.  However, a wise older saint knows that the younger saints are the strength of the church.  He knows how to encourage them and help them to grow.  We need to encourage our youth to live for God.  It is important that we convey the truths of God’s Word to the next generation.  They are the ones who will one day be running the local church, after us older folks are long gone.

Young Saints Often Lack Wisdom

Paul told Timothy to not let anyone despise or hate his youth.  The reason people despise youth is because they make decisions without knowledge.  They tend to not listen.  Paul was telling Timothy that he needed to go beyond what most youth do; and, instead, be an example of a wise believer.  He encouraged Timothy to live for God as a young man, and to live above reproach, so that the older saints would not have an excuse to say bad things about him.

Young Saints Need to be an Example

The way younger Christians can live above reproach is by, first, living according to the Word of God.  After that, they should have honest conversation.  For a young person to quit lying, that shows growth.  Next, they should have charity toward their younger siblings and other young people in the church.  They should, most of all, live a Spirit-filled life.  They should have a walk with God, such that, the Spirit can guide and direct them.  They should also exhibit a faith that is willing to step out and take chances for God.  Young people are known for their zeal and should not be afraid to try new things for God.  Last of all, young people should live a life that is pure and not defiled by the world.  Not touching the opposite sex before marriage is the most obvious.  Don’t let someone despise your youth.
