Luke 23:31. For if they do these things in a green tree, what shall be done in the dry?

The Lord was talking about how things would be when he came back and comparing them to the time in which he was living.  The point was, it was a wicked day in which he lived.   The tree was green when they had the Lord of glory standing before them in the flesh.  They constantly were trying to destroy Christ.  It should be no surprise that in our day when things are a little dry, that we may have a little more wickedness.

As bad as things are today, in the tribulation, they will be much worse.  This is relatively the day of the green tree.  It is important that we redeem the time because the days are evil.  One lesson to get from this passage is the comparison and contrast of relative evil.  Probably in Christ’s day they thought it was pretty wicked.  Obviously, they thought the Lord could come back at any time.  At the same time, compared to today, some things are much worse now.  Evil is always going to be present with us in this world.  We just need to be thankful for the green tree.

Instead of complaining about how bad things are getting, why not try and find a green tree in the midst of things.  It may not be easy to find, but there is still some good left in the world.  The Lord’s fingerprints are still on His creation.  Try and find some good.  Look to lead a sinner to Christ.  Look for what you have that is eternal.  Look for the green tree today and see what the Lord has done for you.
