2 Timothy 2:21. If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master’s use, and prepared unto every good work.
Back Washing a Filter
Purging is the process whereby impurities are removed. A filter is something that is used to remove impurities from a pump system while fluid moves through the system. When a filter is purged, it is back washed to remove the debris that has built up overtime. Back washing involves pumping clean water in the opposite direction through the filter media to dislodge dirt and debris. The same is true of our Christian life. We get dirty and spotted by this world. We need to be back washed with the Word of God and confession. The world is running one direction and God’s Word needs to purge or back wash us in the opposite direction. If the filter is all clogged up, it can not flow freely. Regular back washing with clean water helps to keep things moving freely.
Back Washing the Mind
Throughout any given day, many thoughts, ideas, things we see, things we hear, things we feel go through our heart and mind. The heart and mind of a Christian that does battle filter out the vile filth of the world. Those things can begin to weigh on you and build up with we don’t deal with them somehow. Each morning and/or evening, we need to come to the Word of God, and let it clean our heart and mind. We need to back wash our spiritual filter system and get out any impurities that have built up during the day. We need to confess sin. We need to be sanctified and made meet or ready for the master’s use that day or the next. You need a clean filter if you are going to be ready to do battle for the Lord. A clean mind is needed to fight sin. As Christians, we need to back wash the mind each and every day.
