The Church That Cares For Your Soul

Is it Evil for You to Serve God?

Joshua 24:15. And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.

A Decision

Life is full of decisions.  Joshua placed a decision before the children of Israel.  They could either serve what they were comfortable with or they could serve God.  Joshua made a statement saying, “if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord.”  The children of Israel got to a pretty low state in their thoughts of God, where they thought it was actually evil to serve God. You could expect that of a bunch of heathen, but not of God’s people.

Do the Heathen Make More Sense?

When you get backslid, the old ways don’t look so bad.  You start to think the “gods” of your father make sense.  Maybe you were raised to think it was okay on Sunday to just relax, play, picnic, eat, and hang out with your heathen family.  That “god” of your father may seem okay to serve.  You may start to think it is “evil” or no good to go to church.  That is what had happened to Israel.  The land they were living in, with all the heathen and the heathen ways, was looking good.  God’s ways were looking evil.

Be Careful Who You Hang Around

You need to be careful who you hang around with.  If you hang out with godly Christians, you will want to serve the Lord.  If you hang out with heathen, you will want to serve their god, the devil.  Joshua put a choice before Israel.  He made a decision that he and his family were going to serve God.  It did not seem evil to him.  It was not a burden or a chore.  It was a blessing to serve God.  He wanted to do it.  How about you?  Is it a joy for you to serve God?
