2 Timothy 2:20-22 But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour. If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master’s use, and prepared unto every good work. Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.
It is Time to Grow Up
At some point in life, it is time to grow up. You need to purge yourself from all the youthful and sinful habits. As a Christian grows, he should get rid of the wood and earth and acquire gold and silver, in the spiritual sense. It requires a purging, or getting rid of what is not right in our life. In order to do that, we have to flee, or run away from, youthful lusts. When you were a youth, you did what made you feel good without any concern for others, for the most part. Men are very selfish when they are young. That is why God commanded men to love their wives as much as they love themselves.
A Pure Heart and Coming Clean With God
When we decide to finally grow up, we need to do things that would honour the Lord and get rid of the things that dishonour Him. It first requires that we have a pure heart. The only way you are going to get a pure heart is to come clean with God. You need to confess your sin, partially so you can recognize it and then change. In the place of lust, you need righteousness, faith, charity, and peace. You need the control of the Holy Ghost in your life so that you can bear the fruit of the Spirit. It is time for us to grow up and quit playing church. Instead, we need to be pillars in the church and become vessels of honour.
