Jeremiah 22:21 I spake unto thee in thy prosperity; but thou saidst, I will not hear. This hath been thy manner from thy youth, that thou obeyedst not my voice.
Sometimes You Just Won’t Listen
Sometimes you just won’t listen to what God is trying to say to you. We often get busy with life, when things are going well, and we just won’t listen to the gentle prodding of the Holy Ghost. That is not a good position to be in. We need to be open and listening to the voice of God, in the good times and in the bad times. We should not need to be in dire distress for God to get our attention. Hearing is more than just reading your Bible or being present in a church service. Hearing is when we are actively engaged in what is being said and then responding, with a right heart, by changing that which is wrong in our lives.
Sometimes We Get Bad Habits in Our Youth
Sometimes we get bad habits. When it has been your manner from a youth not to listen to authority, especially God’s authority, that is a bad habit. When we train our children, they should be trained to obey our voice. If they don’t, sooner or later, they will be in a situation where they need to stop something or they will be hurt if they don’t respond immediately to our command. As Christians, we should be willing to listen to God’s voice immediately. Sometimes He will speak through Bible preaching, sometimes through the Word of God, sometimes through other means. No matter how the message gets to us, we need to obey God’s voice right away. We need to overcome bad habits of our youth where stubbornness and pride ruled our heart. Don’t be someone who just won’t listen.
