When we are saved, we get a new nature. Old things are passed away and all things become new.
2 Peter 1:4 Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
A New Nature
When we are saved, we get a new nature. Old things are passed away and all things become new. That new nature is a divine nature first and foremost. It is God’s nature that now tries to fight against our corrupt, fleshly nature. God now provides an escape for us. We are no longer chained to our sin and our sin nature. We can now overcome sin by the power of His might. Have you truly escaped the old nature and now submit to the new nature? The old man is not dead. You just have a second nature that can overcome the original nature that is full of corruption and lust. The new nature or second nature is more powerful than the first nature.
Using the Weapons We Have at Our Disposal
The problem is we often do not use the weapons we have at our disposal. It is just like a country that is attacked by another nation or some enemy. If they do not use the weapons, people and tactics available to themselves, then it is only their own fault if they are overtaken by the enemy. When a nation is overrun and the people do not fight back, there is usually devastation in that nation. People die, infrastructure is destroyed and it takes years for a nation to recover. When we as Christians refuse to use the weapons we have available as part of our new nature and are overtaken by the devil and the world, it really is only our own fault. We need to be ready to use the new divine nature we have inside us, each and every day. God wants us to use it or He would not have given it to us. We escaped the corruption of this world when we got saved. It would be a shame to be overcome of that same world simply because we refused to use the weapons we have at our disposal.
