“The Christian, of all men, needs courage and resolution.” – Gurnall, William, 1617-1679. “The Christian in Complete Armour”
2 Chronicles 32:7. Be strong and courageous, be not afraid nor dismayed for the king of Assyria, nor for all the multitude that is with him: for there be more with us than with him:
Courage and Resolution
It takes courage and resolution to be a godly Christian. You are not going to make it very long as a Christian unless you have some determination and grit about you. As Dr. Don Green used to say, “you need to have some sand in your drawers.” Grit and resolution is something that is becoming a thing of the past. Very few people have character any more. When they do get saved, it is hard for them to stick with it and continue on in the Christian life. If everyone who got saved “stuck”, our independent Baptist churches would be bursting at the seams.
Don’t Quit
As the day approaches of our Lord’s return, it is important that we don’t quit. We need to not be afraid or dismayed by the enemies of our Lord. When we start looking to the side or get our eyes off of the Lord, we are a candidate for quitting. We cannot have confidence in this flesh. Sooner or later it is going to fail us. There are more for us on God’s side than there are enemies against us. Also, one of God’s angels easily outweighs any enemy. Have some confidence and courage in the Lord. He will get you through.
