Proverbs 21:19. It is better to dwell in the wilderness, than with a contentious and an angry woman.
Proverbs 26:21. As coals are to burning coals, and wood to fire; so is a contentious man to kindle strife.
A Sweet Spirit is From the Lord
Do you have a contentious or sweet spirit? These verses show what kind of spirit you should not have. The first verse reveals that a contentious and angry woman is not someone you want to be around. The opposite is true of a woman with a sweet spirit. It is so important that your spirit be sweet and that the sweet spirit comes from a joy of the Holy Ghost. A false sweetness is not what I am talking about. Many can put on a fake smile or pretend to be nice for a little while, but a sweet spirit from the Lord is something that only comes from a walk with God and a control of the flesh by the Holy Ghost.
Dr. Jekyll to Mr. Hyde in 30 Seconds
If you are one that can go from Dr. Jekyll to Mr. Hyde in a matter of 30 seconds, I would argue the spirit of God does not have reign over your heart. Guarding your spirit as a Christian so that you do not have a sharp temper with those you are trying to help shows an extreme level spiritual growth. In order to do so, you must allow God’s spirit to control you when things are going good and when they are going bad. Are you a city that is broken down and without walls when it comes to a bad temper? If so, you do not have a sweet spirit from the Lord.
Letting the Holy Ghost Control You
Letting the Holy Ghost control you is something that takes putting a lot of Bible in the heart and mind. You then need to seek the Lord and put on the whole armor of God and arm your mind with the fruit of the spirit. Being patient in the midst of adversity and not letting things upset you will help you to not be contentious. No one wants to be around someone with a bad spirit. Let God give you a good spirit and control your temper. You can then be a blessing to others.
