John 9:41. Jesus said unto them, If ye were blind, ye should have no sin: but now ye say, We see; therefore your sin remaineth.
The first prerequisite to getting saved is realizing you have a vision problem. The Pharisees refused to believe so. They had gotten very used to living a self-righteous life; some for 30, 40, 50 years, or more. It is hard for some to admit they are wrong after that long of a time. Jesus healed this blind man and gave them an example of needing to realize they are blind in order to see. They just did not get it. What Jesus said to them, does not seem to make sense at first glance. He told them if they were blind, then they would not have any sin in their lives. Because they refused to admit they could not see, their sin remained in their lives.
The whole point of this story is that it takes true repentance to get saved. You first need to admit you are a sinner and deserving of hell. That is not easy for all to admit, likely because of pride. If you have been trusting a prayer or some religious deed to get you to heaven, like these Pharisees, you are saying, I can see just fine. Your sin remains. You have sin in your soul that has not been washed away by the blood of Christ. You are not going to heaven. Why? Because you refuse to admit you cannot see.
Only Jesus Christ can give you spiritual eyesight. Christ was the only one who could heal this blind man, as well. In order for this blind man to get healed, he had to come to Christ and ask to be healed. He needed to realize he was blind and that he had a need. When you finally figure out you are spiritually blind, you will come to Christ and be saved. You will quit trusting your religion like these Pharisees. Have you admitted you are blind? Or do you refuse to admit it and go on in your sin. If so, you still have the blot of sin on your soul. It remains. Come to Christ today and quit trusting a false religion which makes you think you can see, when you are blind as a bat.
