Psalms 139:20-24 – For they speak against thee wickedly, and thine enemies take thy name in vain. Do not I hate them, O Lord, that hate thee? and am not I grieved with those that rise up against thee? I hate them with perfect hatred: I count them mine enemies. Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.
The enemies of God hate everything about God, but most of all they hate God’s people. The enemies of God take great joy when His people fall or fall short of living up to His commands. God’s people admit publicly they are living by a different standard than the world, so the world and the devil feel obligated to throw sin in their face when they won’t live up to it. Sticking up for God’s people is part of being a godly Christian.
The reaction of the lost to sexual scandal of God’s people tells you a lot of about people hearts. There is not doubt this is heinous sin that has to be dealt with and repented of. What is revealed through this is the heart of American’s attitudes toward God. They are very quick to judge God’s people but will not judge themselves for the same offenses.
Any kind of immorality is sin whether it is fornication, adultery, lasciviousness, unclean desires of the mind, you name it. All of it hurts the fabric of the family and not just Christian families. God designed man and woman to have one relationship for life. Any sex outside marriage will only destroy the hearts and minds of people. There are permanent effects from these sins that are hard to overcome even when the blood of Christ cleanse them. Immorality will corrupt a nation. Just look at the fall of Rome.
As Christians we are to forgive our brothers and sisters in Christ when they repent. That is commanded from the Bible. One would expect the lost to throw someone under the bus and judge a Christian who has tried to repent. That is the devil’s method of operation. Just look at the temptation of Christ in the desert as a case and point. As you read articles in the news you can often learn a lot about people and the temperature of society by reading comments. It is there you see the vehement hatred towards God and God’s people.
The lost judge Christians and not their own. The average lost Hollywood whore or whoremonger is worse than this scandal yet the lost would not think twice about judging them. Why? Because they do not claim to live by a holy standard. The problem is all of us will be judge by the same laws of God whether we say we believe them or not. We as Christians should stick up for our own when they truly repent and we should judge the lost when they live in unrepentant sin. The difference is we stick up for the repentant. The lost stick up for the unrepentant or lawless. The lost believe in “judge not lest ye be judged” when it comes to protecting their own sin. Some of God’s people try to espouse that same principle when they try to justify their sin too.
When you got saved, you got the mind of Christ. You should think different and act different than the devil’s children. You should stick up for you brothers and sisters in Christ. The devil’s crowd sticks up for their own! This is God’s family business. America is under attack by the devil like never before. God hates his enemies and we should too. We need to stick up for our own.
