The Church That Cares For Your Soul

The Comforter

These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you. But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. – John 14:25-27

God’s Temple

The Comforter, the Holy Ghost from the Father, has been placed inside every born again believer.  The Bible refers to us as temples after we are saved.  A temple is a place where God dwells or lives.  I Cor 6:19-20 makes it very clear that our bodies are the temple where God’s Spirit resides.  God also makes it clear that when he bought the piece of real estate, known as our body, that it no longer belongs to us, it now belongs to Him.  There are a few points I would like to make about when the Holy Ghost tabernacles, or lives, in our body.

  1. We Are God’s Property – We are no longer our own.  We need to obey God’s commandments if we are going to have peace with the new resident of our body.  We must glorify God in this body or we will grieve and then silence the very sensitive resident that now dwells within.
  2. We Shall Be Taught – We don’t need to figure out this Christian life on our own.  God’s Spirit will teach what to do, through the Word of God, as we read it and listen to good preaching.
  3. We Shall Have Peace – We can have peace with God as we are comforted by the Holy Ghost, as we walk with Him.  In order to walk with Him, we have to confess and forsake our sin.  You have to battle this flesh all day long and deal with sinful thoughts as soon as they occur.  If not, they will take root and the peace of God will disappear quickly.  The Holy Ghost will produce the fruit of the Spirit as we yield to him and let him control us.  The opposite of this, is letting the flesh control us and that will produce the works of the flesh. (It is kind of funny that the Spirit produces fruit and the flesh produces works.  Fruit grows without effort from the tree, whereas work takes effort.)

We need to let the resident that lives inside this body be in full control.  We must battle this flesh tooth and nail to keep him at the helm.  Don’t ever give up the fight.  It will glorify your Father in heaven when you allow the Spirit to have full control.
