James 4:14 – Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.
The vapor of life is its fleetingness. It is here one minute and gone the next. I was listening to Br. Sam Gipp preach about the brevity of life. We have a very short time on this earth that we can serve God voluntarily. On this earth we can choose to serve God. In heaven, when we have a perfect, glorified body we will be praising God all the time. In the mean time, some Christians just will not givie up this short life in exchange for eternal rewards.
We can voluntarily give up our dreams and hopes to serve God for a short period of 70-80 years this side of eternity. It makes sense but we often lack the foresight and will to do right and make the right choices. We need to constantly keep our focus on eternity and live in light of it. Do you make decisions based primarily on how it will affect your eternal rewards and growth? That is the right way to look at it.
