Mark 3:7 – But Jesus withdrew himself with his disciples to the sea: and a great multitude from Galilee followed him, and from Judaea,

Mark 6:31 – And he said unto them, Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while: for there were many coming and going, and they had no leisure so much as to eat.

Christ needed to rest from the ministry.  He got weary just like you and me when constantly dealing with the crowds.  Ministering to people will wear you out.  Christ came apart with his disciples each day.  Also, at times, he went apart into a desert place to rest.  It is important for us to get apart from the world and rest.  If you are going to go on vacation, it should not be to see how much of the world’s amusements and pleasures you can take in.  It should be to separate from the world as much as you can.  That does not mean you cannot have fun with your family.  However, if your spiritual batteries are not the main thing you are trying to recharge, then your priorities are wrong.

Christ withdrew with his disciples, his family.  He spent a lot of time on the water with them. The ocean has a calming effect in my opinion.  So does a desert.  A mountain is good too.  You need some vacation time, some down time.  As it is summer time, many people will be taking vacations.  Hopefully you do not take a vacation from Jesus.  Try and spend a little extra time in prayer, reading your Bible and reading good spiritual books.  Get filled with the spirit of God and not the flesh.  The Lord knows we need some down time.  Just make sure you vacation with Jesus.
